What is pre workout?
Body building is something which requires very high dedication and discipline. Hours of hard work and workouts are needed to make a good body muscle. Of course, the exercise is the key to make a good body, but the workout routine can get very demanding. It is also sometimes difficult and it requires some help and assistance. Pulling off hard exercises can be very risky.
If the taken nutrition is not right, then it may have serious adverse effects on health. Indeed, our body should be equipped to handle the stress which we put it through when we indulge in various workout exercises. For this purpose, many kinds of supplements are available which provides us the essential nutrients that our body must have in order to build body muscle. These nutrients are hard to keep track in our daily meal so that taking supplements can ensure the intake of these nutrients.
Pre workout is a commonly used supplement. Pre workout supplements are generally used by individuals to gain an extra boost of energy which helps and facilitates the recovery of muscles after a very strenuous exercise. These supplements contain many chemical ingredients, but the key source of the energy it supplies is the caffeine. Some of the other compounds used in pre workout supplements are creatine, beta alanine, and other amino acids. These supplements are available in many forms. They are available in the form of tablets, pills, capsules and powder, which are the most commonly used forms.
There are many companies producing pre workout supplements. However, the large demand base and high rate of competition has affected the quality of the products. It is important to understand the fact that pre workout supplements essentially interferes with the normal body metabolism and can cause severe side effects if the composition of the supplement is not right or the intake quantity is not kept under check. There are many companies competing right now to gain a market share in this business. So, most of the supplements in the market often go out through without any kind of quality control checks. They may even contain harmful ingredients which can adversely affect our bodies.
The main effect of the pre workout supplements is to increase the blood flow rate through the muscles and increase the fat burning rate. It highly increases the production of ATP, which gives us energy. It also focuses on increased lipid oxidation that indicates that the body burns fat instead of carbohydrate.
What is acne?
Acne is a common skin anomaly occurring in almost everyone’s body. It is mainly a skin condition where an oily swelling appears in the skin. These swellings are mainly filled with dead skin cells and oil. Acne is a common problem and occurs commonly in teenagers, but it can be observed in people of other age groups also. Acne occurs due to many reasons, but the main reason is the excess of oil production from the extended skin pores. It generally causes a swelling which is connected inside with a follicle and is filled with oil. The swelling occurs when the blocked hair follicles are infected with bacteria. Acne is mainly caused by hormonal changes in the body. Contrary to popular myths, acne is not caused by dirty skin. In a bid to cleanse skin, excessive cleaning and rubbing may worsen the existing acne on the skin.
Does pre workout cause acne?
The cause of acne is primarily contributed to various hormonal levels in the body and testosterone is one of the main hormones concerned with causing acne. Even without pre workout supplements, the amount of testosterone in our body is increased to the normal level when we workout. However, the hormone levels soon become normalized after the completion of the exercise. Having a high carbohydrate rich diet is one of the major causes of acne.
Most of the bodybuilders on a carbohydrate rich diet may get acne but this has not been successfully verified till now. So, coming to the case of pre workout supplements, they have also not been successfully linked to be a major cause of acne. But speaking about the ingredients, the main cause of acne in pre workout supplements is sugar. Most of the supplements are made of artificial sweeteners and these synthetic sugars are highly carbohydrate rich and can cause serious acne problems.
Acne cannot be directly linked to pre workout supplements but they are major contributor and helping factor in causing acne. Performing an exercise and strenuous workout routines cause excessive sweating, which can block the skin pores. The follicles also get mixed up with bacteria and dirt causing oil filled swellings or acne. Now, using pre workout supplements increase our body metabolism rate and provides us with extra energy to help with the exercises. However, these also increase the amount of sweating and oil production from skin glands and it increases the chances of causing acne.
Pre workout supplements also increase the levels of insulin in our body. High levels of insulin, though not proven, have been found to be mostly associated with acne. Apart from these root causes, the other major cause of acne due to pre workout supplements depends on the quality of the supplements. As mentioned earlier in the article, most of the supplements are available in the market and they do not go through any reliable channel of quality checks. For this reason, the chemical ingredients in the supplement may be of inferior quality or harmful in nature to our bodies. If any of the ingredients in the supplement is of inferior quality, then it might cause a reaction with the body and cause acne in the form of skin conditions.
Acne occurring due to intake of pre workout supplements is a common occurrence for people who frequently go to the gym or workout centers. Although pre workout supplements cannot be directly deemed as the cause for acne, it sure does have some major contributing factors. So, one should be very careful with the use of pre workout supplements and always ensure the quality of the ingredients in order to prevent any causing of acne.
