What makes you tingle in pre-workout?

April 21, 2020 by Sheryl

The two keys ingredients added in pre-workout supplements are beta-alanine and Niacin, popularly known as vitamin B3. Beta-alanine can give your body the extra boost when you need it, but it can cause a tingling sensation to some.

This sensation is a harmless reaction of the nervous system, which, although non-toxic, can cause discomfort.  Vitamin B3, on the other hand, is present in high doses in most workout supplements, and it can cause a flush. Manufacturers add it in supplements for combining the tingly sensation with caffeine, which has a dramatic effect during the workout. Vitamin B3, however, blocks the mobilization of fats, which is why you should avoid it if your purpose is to lose weight.

Workout supplements are products consisting of a combination of substances that can improve your workout experience. These products contain substances like caffeine, which is a great nerve stimulant to give a kick-start.

Itching or Tingling Skin

Workout supplements that feature Beta-Alanine in doses of 2g per serving or higher will usually cause a tingling or itching feeling in your skin. This chemical causes paraesthesia, which you will feel like tingling, itching, slight burning, or numbness, which can be distracting for some.

These feelings, however, are not harmful to your body. There is one way you can avoid the itchiness if you split the dosage of your supplement into smaller doses and take it throughout the day.

Workout supplements are usually taken to pump you with energy, make you alert and ready for action. If you are feeling some discomfort, then it is a sign that you will want to switch up your workout formula. There are a couple of side effects which people face after taking workout supplements, but there are ways for you to fix them.

Late Night Jitters

The hype with workout supplements is the energy kick that it provides you before you begin your workout session. That race is usually the cause of caffeine that helps to sharpen focus, accelerate your reflex, and increases your metabolism. However, different body types have different metabolism level, and the amount of bodyweight you lose depends on how fast your body burns fat.

Caffeine, for instance, also has different reactions depending on one person to another. Some people can keep sipping on coffee throughout the day. Yet, they have no problem falling asleep at night while others stay up and anxious, even with just one cup of coffee in the day.

If you are sensitive to caffeine, then you will notice that the workout supplement you take will leave you feeling jittery, irritable, and awake at night.

To avoid insomnia, you can start by cutting half amount of the recommended dosage. Working out during the daytime or in the afternoon can also help in exhausting the caffeine in your body. Caffeine usually takes about three to five hours to wear out of your system so, keep a note of having your workout formula a few hours before your sleep schedule.

But, if your time allows you to be able to work out only in the evening, then buy a workout formula that doesn’t contain caffeine, especially if it harms your body.

Tingling Feeling

The two main ingredients that are added in the workout formula have the effect of causing some unfamiliar sensation on the skin. These ingredients help in giving you the boost before your workout, but they also cause a tingling feeling in the hands and feet.

You will feel a warm tingle that can redden or cause skin flush. If you are taking the workout supplements for the first time, this feeling will come across as alarming, but there is nothing you should have to worry about.

The key to minimizing this tingling sensation is to keep yourself hydrated. While taking a workout formula, you should drink at eats 100 ounces of water throughout the day. If this sensation is proving to be a distraction during your workout session, then cut back on your doses.

Some ingredients in workout supplements tend to burn the glycogen storage faster, so it is better to avoid these contents. Your muscle will need glycogen as energy during the workout, and if it is exhausted prematurely, you might not be able to finish your workout session.

Should you take pre-workout supplements?

In general, workout supplements are harmless when taken as per the recommended dosage for an average person. Before starting a new formula, you should, however, always check with your doctor about the dosage suitable for your body.

Workout supplements are manufactured and marketed to serve as nutritional supplements to increase your performance by enhancing your strength. The extra workout, as a result, helps you to achieve your goals of reducing body fats and muscle growth, faster.

Most people will feel a massive energy rush the first time they take the workout formula. Before you start your dosage of workout supplements, you should have a clear idea of its benefits and the down-sides too. Many users tend to become dependent on these supplements every time before they start their workout routines.

A dependency on workout supplements will make you feel that without taking it, you will not be able to achieve your ideal fitness goal. Some people even get to a point where the need to feel a tingly sensation becomes a requirement as they feel that the formula hasn’t kicked-in yet without the feeling. The worse part is if you let it get out of hand and feel that without taking the workout supplement, you will be able to focus or have the energy to follow through the exercises.

You need to draw a line when it comes to workout supplements. Regularly relying on the supplements to give you the energy boost will be harmful to your health in the long run. Therefore, if you are planning to start your dosages for the first time, then you need to be sure if you will be able to control your intake as per the recommended amount.

Although pre-workout supplements will give you the extra boost that you need, that, however, doesn’t mean that you will reach your ideal fitness goal. The key is to keep your mind focused and strong so that you are motivated to work hard to achieve your goals. With a determined mindset for the win, you can achieve any goal even without the help of supplements.
